Two Audrain County Men Indicted on Federal Child Pornography Charges

ST. LOUIS, MO—Mike Martin Mollet and Glen Roy Mollet were indicted on federal charges of possession of child pornography, Acting United States Attorney Michael W. Reap announced today.

MIKE MARTIN MOLLET, Rush Hill, Missouri; and GLEN ROY MOLLET, also of Rush Hill, Missouri; were each indicted by a federal grand jury on July 9, 2009, on one felony count of possession of child pornography.  The indictment alleges that between October 2007 and January 2008, the Mollets possessed images containing children under the age of eighteen engaged in sexually explicit conduct on their computer.

"Child pornography is a complex and serious crime that hurts our community’s most defenseless victims, and it is in all of our interest to make sure perpetrators are held accountable," said Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney Jacob Shellabarger.

If convicted, possession of child pornography carries a maximum penalty of ten years in prison and/or fines up to $250,000.

This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys Offices and the Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims. Reap commended the work performed on the case by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Mid-Missouri Internet Crimes Task Force, the Audrain County Prosecuting Attorney, the Audrain County Sheriff’s Department and Assistant United States Attorney Tiffany Becker, who is handling the case for the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

The charges set forth in an indictment are merely accusations, and each defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
